About Us
Headway Surrey is here to support you and your family.
Adults over 18 in Surrey with acquired brain injury and their family.
People outside of Surrey can access Headway Surrey support but Surrey residents will take precedence. If you live outside Surrey, check Headway UK to see if there is a Headway in your county or area offering similar services.
Our aim is for survivors of brain injury to become as independent as possible, to understand their injury and to learn how to adapt to new ways of living and well-being.
We use SMART individual goals, so everyone reflects and considers what they’d like to improve or introduce in their daily life, and we help break down the goal into manageable/realistic steps. We will build on the 10 Keys to Happiness and Wheel of Wellbeing to help decisions about what is important to each person to incorporate/improve upon.
Acquired brain injury, ABI, can be from stroke, heart attack, encephalitis, aneurysm, meningitis, hypoxia, tumour, etc. It can also be from a traumatic brain injury, TBI, from a road traffic incident, sporting injury, work injury, assault, combat, trip, slip, fall, flying objects and falling objects, etc.
We are a small charity; however our specialist Rehabilitation Team provide a comprehensive and caring range of services, they have qualifications in Understanding Brain Injury from the University of Northampton and Headway UK and Brain Tree Training, they also have a range of skills and experience in psychology, teaching, special needs, and challenging behaviour.
In addition to supporting survivors, we also help the wider support network of family members, children, spouse, partner, parents, carers, work colleagues and employers. We provide a helpline for those in crisis or support, education sessions and one to one session, providing strategies and skills to improve situations.
We operate from a ground floor custom built, fully accessible Centre in North Road, Guildford. It is an eco-friendly design (including producing our own solar energy), so we do our bit for the environment and put the money saved on energy back into our services!
The Centre is comfortable, light and airy, and provides us with an excellent working environment providing a great training and study work area, a relaxing confidential quiet room, a kitchen, a relaxing garden and admin offices. If you are unable to travel to see us, we also offer online alternatives, usually on Zoom.
Headway Surrey is an independent registered charity, established in 1985 and is separate to Headway UK. Headway Surrey pays an annual membership to be affiliated to Headway UK so that it can take advantage of national media and parliamentary lobbying and share best practice.
Headway Surrey has to fundraise to run its services, see the chart below for a breakdown of its income and fundraising.
