Rotary President supports Headway

A cheque for a whopping £6,400 has been presented to local brain injury charity Headway Surrey by the Rotary Club of Guildford.

Headway Surrey had been nominated by Grant Connell, the Club’s President last year, as his President’s Charity, and the funds were raised through a range of collections and fund raising events in the Guildford area – including garden parties, street collections and the Club’s highly popular annual Bridge Day.

Accepting the cheque from Grant, and this year’s President Mike Ellis, Headway Surrey’s Chief Executive, Oliver McGeachy, commented, “We are in the process of launching a ground breaking IT project helping people who have survived a brain injury to access electronic media and communications which would not, otherwise, be available to them in their own homes. The funds raised by Rotary Club of Guildford will be used to buy equipment which is essential to the project.

“Yet again,” Oliver added, “it shows the degree to which the Rotary organisation provides, year in – year out, practical help and support to those groups in the community trying to help those who are most disadvantaged.”

From their base in Stoughton, Guildford, for the past 30 years Headway Surrey has been helping those in the County who have survived a brain injury, their families and their carers. It is a completely independent charity which is largely dependent on fundraising to provide its services.
