What's going on

WE HAVE MOVED!

After three years of hard work and planning Headway Surrey have moved to temporary offices in Guildford to allow building work on our brand new Headway House to get underway on the North Road site in Stoughton.

Our telephone numbers remain the same and our mail is being redirected.  If however, you need to visit us, our new address is:

7 Faraday Road, Guildford, Surrey. GU1 1EA

All of our services are being run on the site - including the Tuesday and Thursday group sessions and the Friday Drop In.  The new premises are a bit smaller than North Road but we hope that will not detract from the warm welcome we try to extend to anyone visiting.

Construction on the new Headway House is expected to take about 12 months.  Keep an eye on this web site and we will keep you up to date with progress.

FAREWELL HEADWAY HOUSE

We held a demolition party on May 20th to mark our last day at Headway House in North Road.  On arrival members were asked to take as many "bricks" as they wanted and write down their memories of their time in Headway House.

At lunchtime before our farewell buffet, members attached their memories to balloons.  Following a photo session and a few words from Oliver the balloons were released taking the memories with them.  This seemed a fitting end to a building that had served us well for 12 years.

In July the building finally came down!

FRIDAY DROP IN CLUB AT HEADWAY

On a weekly basis Headway Surrey runs a friendly, free-of-charge, “Drop-In” facility.

Running from 10.30 a.m. until 3.00 p.m. every Friday, the Drop-In is a purely social event, open to anyone affected by brain injury who wants to chill for a short time in the company of people who understand the very particular issues they face.

“We were acutely aware, “commented Chief Executive Oliver McGeachy, “that a lot of the people we support, their families and carers, feel socially excluded because of their disability.

“The average person in the street often completely fails to notice the disabilities faced by someone with a head injury, when they first meet. Unfortunately the individual’s disabilities, such as loss of memory, mean that the simplest tasks in life can be the most problematic.  This can make sustaining a social life a very difficult business indeed

“The Drop-In is not, in any way, intended to replace the formal services which we run at the Centre throughout the rest of the week.

“Instead, it provides a venue, and facilities, where people can play a game of pool or snooker, watch television or simply “chill” and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.” Staff will be on hand to provide, if necessary, advice and support in dealing with problems.”  Tea and biscuits are provided, but feel free to bring a packed lunch should you choose to stay all day.

The Drop-In is not restricted to existing members. Anyone who has used the centre in the past or who is currently trying to deal with a head injury, including families and carers, are welcome to come along.

Headway House is located at 7 Faraday Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 1EA.  For more information contact us.
