GENERAL MANAGER

Salary: £38,500 pa gross Full-Time 

5 days per week

37 Hours per week (09.30 – 16.30)

Holidays: 27 days per year

Headway Surrey aims to change, evolve and excel over the coming years as all charitable organisations continue to face financial pressures. With the planned retirement of our CEO, Mr Oliver McGeachy, the Council of Management at Headway Surrey is looking for an individual who will inspire, develop and lead us forward with our long-term transition objectives.

This role will include:

JOB PURPOSE

To implement the aims and objectives of Headway Surrey, including accountability for the provision of high-quality services for clients with acquired brain injury.  To oversee  Headway Surrey’s operations and to drive its strategic development forward in line with the Council of Management’s requirements.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

To provide leadership and support to staff and volunteers to maintain the high quality of Headway Surrey’s services, and to ensure that staff and volunteers are well motivated and equipped to fulfil their responsibilities.

To ensure that Headway Surrey operates efficiently in line with its agreed budget and delivers value for money.

To formulate strategy, policy and business development proposals for consideration by the Council of Management, and to develop appropriate objectives and drive agreed change.

To  strive to develop income streams to safeguard the current and future viability of Headway Surrey, including public and private sector contracts, grants from statutory sources and voluntary trusts, fundraising, membership and subscriptions.

To develop Headway Surrey’s services, in terms of their scope, geographical coverage and sources of referrals.

To maintain a high public profile for Headway Surrey through networking, social media, public relations, business & professional contacts throughout Surrey and other means.

To lead and participate in partnership working with statutory, private and voluntary sector bodies in the interests of those affected by brain injury. This may include lobbying and working with other organisations, such as Sabin (Surrey Acquired Brain Injury Network) & Headway UK.

To ensure the full participation of users, carers, volunteers and others with appropriate expertise in the development of services, including our IT initiatives.

To respond to the changing needs of the client group.

OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT

To ensure appropriate recruitment, retention, training and support of staff, be-frienders and volunteers.

To monitor the performance of staff and ensure effective supervision.

To oversee the management of buildings, plant and equipment.

FINANCIAL AND REGULATORY MANAGEMENT

To maintain effective financial controls, budget management and reporting systems, reviewing and improving them as appropriate.

Preparation and operation of our income and expenditure budget, as agreed by the Council of Management, and regularly monitor performance.

To liaise with the Company Secretary to ensure that Headway Surrey complies with all legal and regulatory requirements, including Charity Commission and Companies House requirements.

To oversee the servicing of the Council of Management’s needs and the processing of AGM procedures.

TRUSTEE

 

We are always looking for committed, talented individuals to become Trustees and members of our Council of Management.  Our current Trustees are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds, some with an interest in brain injury and others with significant areas of professional or practical expertise which they feel can contribute to the future of the organisation.

The Council of Management is responsible for directing the strategic future of Headway Surrey and ensuring the application of good governance across its full range of activities.  We would be particularly interested in speaking to individuals who have experience of working in the social care sector or health or who have personal experience as a brain injury survivor or carer.
