BRILLIANT BURPHAM
Headway Surrey folk descended on Burpham, Guildford, for
the week-end recently, to run a collection event at the Sainsbury's
supermarket. funny hats, "hi viz" jackets and big blue collecting buckets
were the order of the day for our members and staff - and their efforts
were handsomely rewarded. Sainsbury's customers donated a whopping £691.
Everyone had great fun and it gave us the opportunity to make a huge
number of people aware of everything we do. The members, volunteers and
staff who joined in were Sarah, Frazer, Clem, Ray, Roger, Keith, John,
Sue, Jo-Ann, Hayley, Lee and Oliver.
Headway Surrey has been chosen by the staff at
Sainsbury's, Burpham, as their charity for the year. We will be working
with them over the next 12 months not only to raise funds, but to increase
public awareness of the issues faced by people affected by brain injury.
Sainsbury's staff had their own fundraising event recently when nearly 60
of them took part in a Quiz Night at the store. Headway Surrey staff,
Hayley, Lee and Oliver, joined one of the teams - but we don't need to
dwell on their performance. They came last!!
The next fundraising week - end at Burpham is in the
diary for Saturday and Sunday, November 26 and 27. If you are interested
in helping on the day contact Hayley on 01483 455225 or email
enquiries@headwaysurrey.org

Rotary
Sponsored 10K Walk
|

Our Team Leader
Sprout lead
his team on the walk!
|
The Rotary Club sponsored
walk on the 8th May 2011 was great fun! It was well organised, the weather
dry and warm, a perfect day for a ramble. All ages took part with lots of
dogs! It was a pleasure to see parts of Guildford that you wouldn't
normally see! An enjoyable day for everyone.
We are especially
proud of Carolyn who jogged with her husband and raised £60. Carolyn
is a frequent user of our free Drop-in centre on Friday's, which is open
to all who are affected by brain injury. Carolyn finds that if she
moves fast it helps her with bad balance which is due to her brain injury.
Well Done Carolyn!!
If you would like to
find out more about the walk the link below will take you there:

Brain Injury Week
|

|
Brain Injury Week was
Friday 13th May 2011. It focused on improving information given by A&E Departments to people who
sustain minor head injuries. The main aims of the campaign was to:
 |
Highlight the danger signs that require head injury patients to
immediately return to hospital having been discharged. |
 |
Highlight the need for high-quality information on post-concussion
symptoms, which can persist for anything from a few days to several
months or even years. |
We distributed information to local hospitals & GP surgeries in an
attempt to extend our support to those who need it in Surrey.
|
Marks & Spencer 100 day challenge
|

was encouraged to wear blue, placed collection tins throughout the store with an
information stand about brain injury. The staff of M&S raised £2,417.14
for Headway Surrey. |
