Community
Support
|
 |
| Our Community Support Services
are available to anyone who has sustained a head injury, their families,
friends, and carers. The services are also available to people who have brain
injuries resulting in cognitive disabilities, from other causes (e.g. stroke,
tumour, infection, lack of oxygen). |
| We are here to provide
immediate help and support from the time of the injury and will continue to
offer our services for as long as required - be it days, months or years. |
The Community Support Staff:
 |
Promote Headway
Surrey services and staff the helpline - providing an initial point of
contact for people who have sustained head injuries, their families and
carers. |
 |
Deal with enquires -
providing information about head injury and its consequences. |
 |
Follow up enquires with
community visits and ongoing support where appropriate professional and
voluntary services such as benefits, and rehabilitation. |
 |
Research opportunities
for training and work placements and support clients in these. |
 |
Maintain close links
with other voluntary organisations and local statutory bodies. |
|
The Need
| There is little
information or specialist service provision for people with head injuries
and after leaving hospital or acute rehabilitation, many people are left
to manage on their, own which may lead to a real distress, an inability to
cope and a breakdown in family relationships. |
| |
| |
| With specialist support
from Headway Surrey people with head injuries have access to appropriate
information and services which can prevent social, mental, emotional and
physical deterioration. With information, shared experience and
help, families and carers are better able to understand and anticipate
possible problems.
|
| The Community Support
staff maintain contact with other relevant organisations, making every
effort to improve access to all available services so as to avoid
duplication and maximise the benefits available to clients. |
