Press Release
September 12, 2011 ON THE WEY FOR HEADWAY Nearly 30 members of staff from local solicitors, Penningtons, took to their bikes last Friday (September 9, 2011), and cycled the banks of the Wey Navigation to raise over £2,000 for brain injury charities Headway Surrey and Headway Basingstoke. Setting of from their offices in Godalming and Basingstoke the intrepid legal eagles set their sights on the White Hart pub in Byfleet and, following the route of the Wey Navigation, all arrived safely - barring two or three punctures on the way. They had set a fundraising target of £2,000, to be donated to the Headway groups in Surrey and Basingstoke, and had exceeded the figure by the end of the journey. But, why Headway? Penningtons staff have a lot of professional contact with people who have suffered a brain injury, often in the most traumatic circumstances, and have a real appreciation for the work done by Headway. They felt it was important to support these local services. "You cannot believe how significant this support is to us", commented Headway Surrey Chief Executive Oliver McGeachy. "It is not simply a question of money, although we are all having a tough time in the voluntary sector. It raises the profile of brain injury in Surrey and this has to be good for those people who are tragically affected. We really appreciate the efforts of all the staff at Penningtons."
